long time no update. what else is new?

We just got back from a week of dates with our friends City of Ships, and our new friend(s) Mose Giganticus. It was a handful of shows around New England, which is something we haven't done in a while. Super easy and super short, but definitely a fun time.

I just picked up the limited US vinyl artwork from Interrobang this past week and I'm so pysched to assemble these and start mailing them out. They came out amazing and for me it's the perfect package for a record that really means a lot to me.

if somehow you've stumbled up this blog and haven't seem anywhere else: our new album "If Tomorrow the War" was just released in Europe and starts shipping here in the US in less than 2 weeks. I honestly couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out and working with Justin Broadrick has been an unbelievable and mind opening experience...

hmm what else? well, we have started work on a follow up EP for the album that will be on the more shoegaze / electronic end of our spectrum. we are already trying things that we would have never done even a year ago, so it's really cool to me that we aren't settling into a formula and are still able to challenge each other after 2 albums as a pretty solid unit. The EP will be combined with a handful of remixes from "ITTW" - some that we are doing, some that friends are doing, and some that fans are doing. If it come together the way I envision it, it should be a cool project.

Sort of a surreal afternoon.

I'm sitting at the ASU West library in Phoenix, AZ. A place that Constants spent A LOT of time when we first started heavily touring. We basically ran our press campaign for "The Murder of Tom Fitzgerril" out of this place. I remember writing out all the content for our old webpage here, assembling press kits and sending out countless emails to reviewers, publicists, labels, managers. It's crazy to think back at how much work it has taken to get this far, and all the wild shit that has happened along the way.

Also, our man JKB has said he is putting the final touches on new our record right now. It's like being a kid on christmas eve being told you can't open the presents. We've been having some good music talks, so I'm feeling like this album is going to turn out to be something really special for us.

We just got home from SXSW last week - which was super fun by the way. It's the fourth year I've been co-organizing our Goodbye South By Finale Party, and this year we had all my usual favorites plus some amazing new bands played like Rival Schools, And So I Watched You From Afar, City of Ships, Atlas Moth and lots more. It was a great week among new and old friends. SXSW is like a support group for all the indie rock peter pans of the world. We get together, tell war stories and laugh and drink until everything hurts. Orion says that it ends his year and begins a new one every time. Can't wait until the next one.

So I'm "taking the week off" (which means doing work on my iphone and going to the library for a couple hours a day to work) in Phoenix, enjoying the sun and amazing Mexican food that is sorely lacking in the Northeast. It's nice to get away, but I'm seriously itching to play music for more than a few nights at a time. Right now our drummer Rob is on tour playing with City of Ships in Europe, so if you are over there go check them out.

Up next, we are leaving in a few weeks to do a week tour in Europe, followed by a supporting tour with our good friends Caspian over there. So looking forward to this epic journey. There will be lots of amazing shows, good jokes, bad jokes and probably a lot of things that I can't even imagine just yet.

Just a day in the sun and I'm already feeling more optimistic. gotta recharge the batteries. I'm thinking I need to link this Blog as our "main" web page...I haven't gotten a single comment on the 'kings of muthafuckin space rock' title yet... hmm...

Ah, another snowy day. What better way to prepare for all the touring and working we are doing in the Spring, Summer and Fall than to suffer through shoveling snow and being cooped up indoors for another few weeks?

After re-writing, re-singing and re-organizing a few final songs, I've passed all the files over to Justin Broadrick. So now we sit back and anticipate the first batch of songs getting sent back to us. This record has been a pretty interesting and unique process for this band and it's only appropriate that at it's most crucial point, the finishing elements of these songs are, at least for now, beyond our reach.

I listened back to a couple quick early mixes yesterday morning and I'm surprised and pleased at the direction and pacing with these songs. I don't think this album will be indicative of what comes next so much as a milemarker for this band - it closes the doors on some elements that we've used, and opens doors to a new stylistic palette. All three of us have no idea what the reaction from people will be with this material, but that is part of why making music is so alluring in the first place.

Coming up next for us is a jaunt down to SXSW. Yes, we'll be rolling in our giant ass veggie bus, partying on Red River in Austin and playing at the 4th Annual "Goodbye South By" Finale Party at RED7 - which is always a highlight of the year for us. As much as we hate doing it, it's going to be a pretty short trip with only a handful of shows this time. Money is pretty tight these days with all that we have on the horizon, and the economy and blah blah blah excuses. As well as drinking our weight in Lone Stars, we will be premiering some of the new material, so SXSW will be your first chance to hear all that we've been raving about like excited little children. mmm... Lone Stars.

Ok, so admittedly, I've never been very good at keeping this updated or professional looking at all.

But I'm going to make the effort here to make this blog worth checking in on every once and a while. I'll try to write in it when I'm fired up, pissed off, wasted, etc in an attempt to inform and entertain. There will be lots of information about Constants and all the crazy shit that we are always trying to pull off.

So stay tuned and see if I can stay focused enough to type.

2009 was fucking nuts for us. First time to Europe, our first full length in 4 years (!) was released all over the planet (US, Europe and Japan). I bought a house and put solar panels on it and we're trying to make it the greenest, most sustainable spot that we can.

So far 2010 is going well too... we are almost done tracking a new record that is being producing by our hero Justin K Broadrick. We have *ANNOUNCEMENT* Mike Hill from Tombs singing guest vocals on one song, and another surprise guest that we will announce once he actually records - ya, so i have to finish vocals for one more song, and then all the files get shipped off to Justin...incredibly exciting. I told Justin that I am like a kid on Christmas eve shaking all the boxes and trying to figure out what the fuck is in there....

After a weekend of shows with our friends from Brooklyn Goes Cube (who are celebrating the release of their brand new album - go check it out), we are taking this week to get our ducks in a row before we head out to Europe next week. Thanks to all who came out to the shows, we had a great time.

We are incredibly excited to make our way overseas to promote our new record that comes out May 29th in Germany on Make My Day Records! Also keep an eye on the Mylene Sheath, who will be starting US preorders very soon. More news on that and the Stiff Slack Japanese release (featuring the crazy remix work of Justin K Broadrick and Philip Jamieson) coming soon.

Hey everyone.

We've got a lot of things that we've been busting at the seems to announce and finally the time is upon us.

Our new record "The Foundation, The Machine, The Ascension" will be released by three amazing labels all across the globe.

In the United States, the good people at The Mylene Sheath will be releasing our three part epic on 3x12" vinyl and also on CD in a 6 panel gatefold sleeve. (http://www.myspace.com/themylenesheath)

In Europe, Make My Day Records will continue their ever strengthening relationship with Radar Recordings by releasing our new record. Look for alternate artwork and a tour from us to support the release in June. (http://www.myspace.com/makemydayrecords)

Last, but certainly not least, our album will be released in Japan on Stiff Slack Records featuring alternate artwork and remixes by Justin Broadrick (Jesu) and Philip Jamieson (Caspian). (http://www.myspace.com/stiffslackrecords)

All artwork is being designed by our good friend Ira Bronson at Black Day Creative and he has personally promised me that this will be his most brilliant visual creation to date.

On the touring front:

Next month takes us down to South By Southwest with Caspian, where we will be playing a couple shows including the Radar Recordings / Giant Steps Finale Party with Pelican, Wolves in the Throne Room, Tombs, Caspian, Junius, Adai, Pack of Wolves, Battlefields, Irepress, Calm Blue Sea and Howl.

We're also very excited to announce that we'll be crossing the pond and spending about 6 weeks touring Europe and the UK in support of the new record. We're still putting together details, but we'll be doing some shows with At The Soundawn who are most excellent and there will be a few other surprises as well.

Look for more news (yes there will be more), more details, and more tour dates over the next several weeks and months.

Happy New Year to everyone.

After what turned out to be quite a hectic year for us, it was a pleasure to get the whole family together for the Last Night on Earth 6 at the Middle East downstairs on 12.30. It was quite a night and we want to thank everyone who came out. It's incredible that it's been six years already.

If you haven't already noticed, you'll see that we are going to be back on the road quite a bit in 2009. First we're playing a couple shows around Boston, then we are heading back down to SXSW, which is always our favorite time of year. After that we have lots more in the works as well. More on all that soon.

We have finally completed our record (yes it's done!) and are now just getting all the release details in order. The way things are shaping up this record is going to be available all over the globe and we're very excited to be bringing you specifics over the next several weeks.

So stay in touch. We seriously can't wait to get back in the bus and immerse you in space rock.

Yes, it is finally going to happen. We are very pleased to announce that VEGA VINYL will be releasing our 40 minute EP "The Murder of Tom Fitzgerril" on 12" 180 gram vinyl with gatefold artwork. The album will be available in two colors and should be available this summer. I am working on the art right now, and it's going to incorporate several of Orion's designs that we've used for tshirts and stickers over the past 2 years. be excited be be excited.

We're very happy to announce that Rob Motes (ex-COMA RECOVERY, star of BEERFEST) will officially be joining the ranks of CONSTANTS. We know he has some big shoes to fill, but we all think he's the man for the job.

In other exciting news, we will be releasing a 7" vinyl with CASPIAN and touring down to SXSW with CASPIAN & JUNIUS in March. The new record will feature a new song from both bands, which are possibly the most hard-rocking-no-non-sense compositions from either camp. ever. Real gut punchers. Seriously.

Speaking of SXSW, RADAR RECORDINGS is putting together an amazing showcase with Austin based GIANT STEPS PRODUCTIONS on 3/16 at Red 7. On top of all your favorite Radar bands (CONSTANTS, JUNIUS, ADAI) the showcase features bands like PORTUGAL THE MAN, TERA MELOS, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, MAPS & ATLASES, CASPIAN, CONSIDER THE SOURCE, COLISEUM, THE COMA RECOVERY, LOOK MEXICO, BATTLEFIELDS and some other amazing bands we can't announce yet. So you better be at SXSW this year if you know what's good for you.

And speaking of GIANT STEPS PRODUCTIONS, they will be releasing a comp for SXSW that will feature another brand new song from CONSTANTS. Yes, that's two new songs in one month. For all of you who have been anxiously awaiting new music from us, March will be your month to rejoice. We've been working hard on recording and we're really excited to bring the new material out on the road.

After SXSW, we will be joined by the good old boys of LOOK MEXICO and the old good boys of JUNIUS for a tour through the southwest and up the east coast. It's going to be one helluva time, and I for one can't wait. But ironically I probably won't be able to remember any of it. Go figure.

First off, we're very happy to announce that Jon Hassell has officially joined the ranks of Constants as a full time guitar player and that our first record as a four piece will be recorded by KURT BALLOU (CONVERGE, OLD MAN GLOOM) at GODCITY STUDIO in Salem, MA this November. We've been talking with Kurt, writing lots of new material and are all very excited about what will be our second full length and third official release to date.

But before we enter the studio, we've got a ton of other cool stuff coming up too.

After 10 months on tour in 2006 and over 350 shows since 2005, we're headed back on the road this September, this time on a co-headlining tour with our friends CASPIAN who SPIN.COM says "transcends post-rock cliches with meticulously crafted songcraft." Doesn't get much better than that... That is until we're joined in October by one of my favorite bands out there right now, the sonically massive duo of ADAI.

On this tour, we will also be offering an exclusive limited run of hand printed, hand dyed and hand numbered t-shirts that we are co-designing with Boston's own ESEF . He's done some amazing work for bands like SIGUR ROS and MONO, so we're extremely pleased to be offering a collaboration with him to you.

We're also teaming up with the environmental educational group REVERB to continue our efforts to promote sustainability and renewable fuel sources. REVERB has paired artists like THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, THE BEASTIE BOYS, and THE BLUE MAN GROUP with green sponsors so we're very proud to be a part of their campaign to promote recycling, efficiency and waste reduction at concerts, special events and college campuses nationwide. It's awesome. Go ahead, call us hippies.

We'll still be touring in our waste vegetable oil powered school bus The Star Destroyer, which we are currently upgrading and modifying using parts from LOVECRAFT BIOFUELS . Wait until you see how good this baby looks and runs this tour.

Hey all.

We've spent this week drinking entirely too much, fixing up the bus and playing music. You know what that means? We're back on the road!

We've already been out for a few days and had today off to sleep it off and get more vegetable oil.

This tour takes us in the direction of Austin, TX for SXSW. Duncan put together an amazing Radar Recordings party with label mates CARRIGAN, JUNIUS and friends MAPS AND ATLASES, CONSIDER THE SOURCE and AD ASTRA PER ASPERA (Sonic Unyon) on 3/15 at The Creekside Lounge. If you're headed to the HYDRA HEAD showcase that night, or if you really need to see all your favorite Radar road warriors, make sure to swing by our party first for a few drinks and some free vegetarian food.

After SXSW, we'll be doing a handful of dates in the southwest with ADAI followed by a few shows with RUSSIAN CIRCLES (Flameshovel Rec.) in the midwest. Jon's birthday will be happening in K-zoo, so if you live within 500 miles of that city and enjoy having a good time, it would behoove you to make the journey. Also, when we return home to Boston, we're very excited to be playing the CD release party of our good friends CASPIAN (Dopamine Rec.) and ON FIRE(Magic Bullet) on April 13th at The Paradise.

Jon from SENECA will be joining us again on guitar, and we're all really excited about this tour. This will most likely be the last tour we do before we head into the studio to work on our next record. We've been talking with a few people about the beast we will be recording, and have a ton of new material we've been working on as well.

Also, we have a live in studio recording we did in Whitefish, MT at Snow Ghost studios a few months ago that should be up on our website soon, so keep checking in for that.

So here we are safe and sound, home from tour. It's been a crazy year for all of us and thanks to everyone who helped make it that way. Also big ups to the JUNIUSguys. We spent the last 2 weeks of tour crammed on our bus with them, freezing, catching stomach flus, playing shows and just generally causing mayhem as the 9 of us crossed from Chicago down to North Carolina and then up the east coast.

Now we've all parted ways and we're catching up on rest for our 4th Annual Last Night on Earth Weekend. In case you haven't heard about it yet, here are the details:

After having been on tour for 9 months this year we've managed to make some amazing friends. People have been asking us "so are you spending Thanksgiving at a homeless shelter?"

Today, we've been spending Thanksgiving with a friend's family in Great Falls, MT. We were invited over to his grandfather's house for dinner, and although we've never even met the man, we were welcomed - and fed - like family.

It's definately not easy to be away from the people we care about for as long as we have this year, but finding new and amazing people on the road is part of what this year-long journey has been about.

This year we give thanks to all the people that have helped us to accomplish our goals, and have taught us something about ourselves. Without the kindness, understanding and beer from amazing people like Doc, Roxy, Carson and everyone who has taken us in, fed us, and taken care of us, we wouldn't be the people we are today, and we certainly wouldn't be able to stay on the road this long. We've got 3 weeks left of tour this year, and it looks like we're going to make it. Thank you all and Happy Thanksgiving.

As we begin the final leg of our 10 month tour (only a month and a half left!) we're incredibly excited to say we will be joined by labelmates JUNIUS for the last three weeks of tour in December. Check for updated tour dates here.

Otherwise, we're taking 4 days off this week to make sure the bus is up to the task of another 2 months of driving (the answer being yes, she is), fixing gear, taking some naps and Duncan is still booking shows like an animal. Check the dates, if we aren't coming to your town, email us to help us something up.

We also just did some live recording with Dana from JUNIUS at RED 7 in Austin, TX. I should be able to edit that and post some MP3's soon. We'll also be doing more live recordings, including an in studio performance (hopefully some video as well) before the end of this tour, so stay tuned for all that.

Long time no update. Sorry. Believe it or not we're still on tour...and will be until the end of the year. But thing are going pretty well. Thanks to all our friends in the Northwest for taking such good care of us. We'll be back up there next month and we miss you already.

Other than that, the bus is running well, the shows have been good and we're gearing up for the fourth annual Last Night On Earth weekend (New Years). Radar is getting ready to announce this years headlining act, and we're all really excited about it. Should be a good time.

Here we are in Salt Lake City UT. We've got a couple shows left before we head down to southern California to begin writing our next record. We're taking about 4 weeks off from tour, and hopefully we'll walk out of these sessions with a blueprint for the future of our music. If nothing else we should have a demo or two that I'll be sure to post online. Then we're back on the road until December. We've got a couple new tshirt designs, new stickers and we're looking forward to touring in some nice autumn weather.

After the first two and a half months of our 10 month tour, we've all taken the past 2 weeks off to enjoy the fruits of our labor and individually cause havoc all across North America.

But now, we're back to business.

CONSTANTS is headed out for another month, this time across the south followed 3 weeks up and down the west coast. We've still got our giant bus, we're still playing epic space rock and we've accumulated more tattoos, more tequila, more black clothing - and though we've lost a bit of facial hair, we are very much ready to bring the rock.

Orion was just complaining that I haven't updated our blog in a while, and I guess he's right, so here we go.

Today is Duncan's 23rd birthday and so far we've celebrated by seing Xmen 3, sippin some fine single barrel whiskey and enjoying the air conditioning in the finest mall in Dallas TX.

We're about a week away from wrapping up the first 2 months of our year long tour. A couple of days ago we kidnapped our friend Joel (INFINITE DIVISION/ STATUES CRY BLEEDING), and we've been having a great time.

Here we are in El Paso TX. We're really just getting warmed up playing shows, but it feels great to be back on tour, out on the road, seeing friends and making new ones. We're definately still learning the ins and outs of living in and maintaining the bus, so if we ever decide to stop playing music, I'm pretty sure we could all enjoy decent careers as bus mechanics.

The shows have been going well and we're psyched to finally be enjoying some warm weather. We've been playing some new material as well....I'd say about 10 minutes worth. Plus we've been getting compared to Neurosis more, which I personally think is cool. (I think it's because of Duncan's light show).

We've spent the last week or so busting our asses getting ready to leave for tour; we bought a school bus and have converted it to run on vegetable oil. The process, along with other complications have forced us to cancel the first few dates of this tour. We apoligize that we aren't going to get to see all our friends in the southeast, but we promise that we'll be back around before you even have time to miss us.

On a brighter note, the bus looks great. It runs on veggie oil, has a couch, table, kitchen and beds, so we are seriously going to be touring for eternity. I'll be sure to post some pictures as soon as we're done working 15 hour days trying to finish work on it... We're also psyched to be bringing out Jon Hassell (of SENECA) as our touring guitar player.

WELCOME TO THE CONSTANTS BLOG.
We are currently going through the process of rebuilding our webpage, but we wanted to have some way to communicate with the world while doing so. So this is what we came up with.

We're in the process of buying and modifying a school bus into a bio-diesel. TRANSLATION: for our next 3 month plus national tour we will be zipping around America in a vegetable oil fueled Deathstar. Environmentally friendly, and we no longer have to rely on political administrations and the outcome of wars across the globe to determine how much money we have to spend in order to get from venue to venue. We're really excited.

The good news is we have a school bus. And we are converting it to run on vegetable oil this week. The bad news is...well, actually there isn't any bad news. We're spending this week practicing, partying, getting all our ducks in a row (we have a lot of ducks), and getting ready for our tour kickoff show in Boston with Tarantula AD, The Sword and Short Film next Monday in Boston.
